Travel to the best lake
There is PLENTY to do all around the lake. The lake has 12 towns scattered on its shores. Each one with unique characteristics. Some of them are well known for spiritual retreats like San Marcos and there are others known for their love to party like San Pedro La Laguna. So you will definitely find one that suits your desires. One of our best recommendations is to take a full day to visit some of them and enjoy what they have to offer.
Places to stay
You will have a wide range of places to choose from. From the cool, hipster, modern hostels to the luxurious lake-front private villas. It doesn't matter which one you choose, one thing is for sure, you will have amazing views of the lake and the volcanoes.
Hiking is a must during your stay in the lake. Besides the 3 volcanoes (Atitlán, San Pedro and Tolimán) there are various hikes that you can enjoy during half a day. One of the most recommended is Rostro Maya. A quick 1 hour hike available for every level of experience will leave you in awe with the spectacular views of the lake. Sunrise is the best time to go for it. It will leave you energized through the rest of the day!
Sports and other recreational activities
The lake gives you the opportunity to enjoy it from every single spot it has. It might be from high above as you go for a paraglide ride or from the bottom of the lake if you want to scuba dive and see the mayan towns that have been flooded over the years. Or just relax and try out paddle boarding or kayaking.
With all the options you have at the lake we assure you , you will not want to leave.
