The place
Tikal is definitely the main attraction in Peten, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it's the only thing to do. Just a few minutes from Tikal is the beautiful, tiny island of Flores. It's a picturesque little town full of boutique hostels, international cuisine restaurants, yoga studios and massage centers. Everything you need to chill and relax before or after your visit to Tikal.
And even closer from Tikal, you will find El Remate. A small village located at the shores of lake Petén Itza.
You should travel to Tikal!
The warm water of the lake and a dock with a hammock will have you feeling like one of the sloth bears you can spot on the trees in the surrounding jungle.
On a further distance there is Rio La Pasión. One of the biggest rivers in Guatemala. And every river has to start somewhere. Going up Rio La Pasión, it will start to get narrower and change the color of the water up to a point where you will be able to see through the crystal clear waters a gorgeous underwater garden submerged 10 meters. Crater Azul is the name of the headwater of Rio La Pasión. An amazing experience to dive in the pristine waters of the birth of a river!
